Joral T3R Control System: Computer, Head Control Box and Handles

Stand Alone T3R
The T3R Controller can easily stand alone to implement cut-to-length control.  Functionally, the T3R receives input from the length encoders or prox sensors and controls the drive wheels to stop at the desired length.

The diagram to the right show how the T3R fits in to the overall system.

• T3R Controls the Cut-Length Control
• T3R Provides the User Interface
• Head Control Box Connects to Handles
• Head Control Box Controls Carrier and Head Functions
• Adapter Cables Available to match the Head and Carrier
• Ideal for Retrofits / Restorations / Repairs
• Lower Cost

T3R with Head Control Box
The T3R Controller is often combined with the Head Control Box to form a complete head control solution.  The T3R manages the cut-length control and the Head Control Box manages the joystick handles and head and carrier controls.

• T3R Controls the Cut-Length Control
• T3R Provides the User Interface
• Head Control Box Connects to Handles
• Head Control Box Controls Carrier and Head Functions
• Adapter Cables Available to match the Head and Carrier
• Ideal for Retrofits / Restorations / Repairs
• Lower Cost

Additional Specifications
The CLC-T3R and the Head Control Box can be tailor-fit to meet the needs of the system.
The following information provides a basis for the system to use as a starting point.

CLC-T3R Electrical Requirements

Delimb (Run-Through) Button
Preset select

Output Functions
2 Speed Drive Valve Control:
 Stop Valve Output
 Slow Valve Output
Saw Sol Valve Output
Saw Return Valve Output

Length Measurement
One of the following:
1 Prox input plus a fwd/rev direction input : setting from 1 to 50 counts per inch
2 Prox : setting from 1 to 50 counts per inch
1, 2 or 3 measure encoders
Encoders are sinking.
Proxs can be sinking or sourcing.

Diameter
Diameter sensor is an Encoder device. Only available if using encoders for length measurement (not prox).
Encoder is sinking. Encoder requires Ch A, Ch B and Marker (index/zero) outputs.

Presets
9 presets are available, each with it’s own independent settings.
Presets are stored in permanent memory.
The intent of the 2 speed control is go fast towards the desired cut length until you get close,
then go slow until you reach the length, then stop.
Each preset has:
Stop : Desired cut length in inches (for example 100 inches)
Slow : Number of inches within the desired cut length for feed
rollers to go into reduced speed (for example 10 inches,
which would slow the speed down within 10 inches of the desired length,
but be fast when further than 10 inches from the desired length).
Diameter Stop : Minimum diameter to use as a
stop setting that overrides the length (stop) preset.
Measure Input : Allows selection of the particular length input sensor to use
(such as measure wheel, feed roll, two feed rolls)
Beeper : The computer can sound the beeper in a pattern (or no beep)
based on the type of log being cut (Sawlog, Pulp or Undersize) if the diameter encoder is available.
Under/Pulp/Sawlog : Allows setting of diameter for the type of log (if the diameter is available).

T3R Cut-Length Control
The computer counts length as input from the length encoder(s) or prox.
The operator can set 9 different length presets and select one using the keypad or joystick.
The count is reset with the saw and increases as the rolls move forward.
The log feeds forward until it reaches the slow region where the T3R issues the Slow Output.
The log continues to feed forward until it reaches the preset stop setting where it issues the Stop Ouput.
The operator saws the log, which resets the count and allows the next measurement to start.

If the Saw Prox shows the saw is extended the T3R will keep the Stop Output activated.
If the Delimb Button (run-through) Input to the T3R is active,
the measurement counting function normally,
but the Slow and Stop Outputs will not activate so a delimbing operation
can performed without stopping or slowing down.

CLC-T3R General Input/Output Capability
From the view of a general control computer, the CLC-T3R has the following I/O:
10 digital inputs
10 button inputs
10 encoder inputs (requires 3 per encoder)
8 digital outputs
3 PWM outputs
Run input
Safety Interlock input

General Operation
The T3R is an integrated package containing the computer, the display and the keypad within a single rugged steel enclosure.
4 x 20 LCD backlit operator display
3 x 4 rugged operator keypad
Programming dial
Joystick handles (optional with HCB)
Most functions are performed with one or two keys.
Preset changes are made using the programming dial, turning the dial like a radio dial.
Handles can be supplied for standard machine control functions as well as a button side-pack for selecting presets.

Using the CLC-T3R With the Head Control Box (HCB)
When the T3R is combined with the HCB,
the HCB receives all the connections from the joystick handles, the boom, and the carrier.
The signals that the T3R requires are routed through the HCB.
A single cable connects the T3R to the HCB.

Using the CLC-T3R Without the Head Control Box (HCB)
The T3R can be used without the HCB for implementing the cut-length control.
In this case the signals are brought directly into the T3R using the circular Amp connectors.
When no HCB is available the preset select buttons from the joystick/handles are not available.

The simple system for implementing 2 speed cut-length control could consist of the following signals:
1 Length Encoder or dual Prox sensor on a measure wheel – Input to T3R
Top Saw Prox Sensor – Input to T3R
Delimb/Run-Through - Input to T3R
Stop Valve – Output from T3R
Slow Valve – Output from T3R
